Over the past year many pundits and analysts have voiced concerns with the bombastic language that President Trump has used toward illegal aliens. No matter what side of the political spectrum you fall on, words and actions of our political leaders are often not in sync.
The reality is that the number of removals under the Trump Administration in 2017 are below all eight years of the Obama Administration. The Obama Administration removed more illegal aliens than any other Administration in U.S. History. As of December 13, 2017, Immigrations and Customers Enforcement (under the Trump Administration) has removed 226,119 illegals. Obama Administration removals ranged from a low of 240,255 in 2016 through a high of 434,015 in 2013.
Although the numbers are telling, one reason for decreased removals in 2017 is because many illegals seeking entry into the United States have been deterred from entering illegally due to the language used by President Trump. It will be interesting to study these numbers over the next few years to see how the Trump Administration compares to others.
